Leaders back to winning way PREMIER Division leaders Ramsbottom A returned to winning ways with a comfortable 8-1 win over Wharton A, the win included trebles by Mike Moir and Andy Jackson.
Cricketers in second place won a hard match against Horwich Sports 5-4, thanks to three wins from Jim Chadwick who retained his 100 per cent record, and two by Mike Dore. Farnworth SC A also scored a 5-4 win on their visit to Hilton A, with three players Ron Pennington, Dave Griffiths and Darren Howarth recording two wins in the match
Division One front runners Little Lever B scored a 7-2 win on their visit to lowly Heaton B, Roy Costello led the way with three wins, supported by two wins each for Richard Simmons and Paul Tatlock. Wingates A move into second place thanks to a 6-3 win at Heaton A a treble here by John Bradbury, trebles by Brian Doxey for Wharton B who beat Chorley Old Road 5-4 in a close match, and Dennis Collier for Nomads A who scored a 6-3 win over Horwich Hilton C. The most comprehensive win in the division was the maximum points' victory returned by Mosses on their visit to Ladybridge A, which included trebles for Dave Smith, Simon Charnley and Ben Armstrong.
Hilton B are the early leaders of Division Two thanks to a 5-4 win over the team in second place Nomads B. After trailing by four sets to one, the Hilton team won the remaining four to clinch the victory, a treble here for Peter Bladen. Mike Audsley scored three wins for BEN A in their 6-3 win over Heaton D, as did Mike Smith who was subbing for Ladybridge B in their 5-4 win at Meadow Hill A. This was a close match with five sets decided on the third game. Black Dog also won a very close match 5-4 at Little Lever C, two wins in the match for Ian Lansdale, Frank Green and Mel Brooks.
Division Three leaders Hilton C just retained their unbeaten record with a 5-4 win against Halls, two wins by Dennis Lomax and Alan Hibbert, plus one from Ian Westmoreland clinched the victory. In the Hilton "derby" the 'E' team scored a close 5-4 win over the 'D' team, two wins in the match for Mark Willows, Brian Carter and Barry Walsh. Halliwell Road Meths lost their unbeaten record at Little Lever E where they went down 7-2, Mick Martin scoring three wins and Brian Hardman and Bob Broughton two each for the cricketers. Ladybridge E, on their first appearance of the season, scraped a 5-4 win against Little Lever D thanks to a treble by Glyn Chadwick, and John Whittle trebled for Heaton E who beat Farnworth SC C 6-3.

BEN B are joint top of Division Four thanks to a 7-2 win against Hilton G, three wins here for Kirit Chauhan and two each for Mike Aspinall and Jack Higginbottom. YMCA have a identical record to BEN following their 5-4 defeat at Memorial Road, a treble here for Richard Hannant for the Memorial team. The Jubilee A team of Bhikhu Patel, Roger Bolton and George Dawson scored maximum points against Heaton F. A treble by Lee Davenport helped Hilton F to a 7-2 win at Heaton G, and three wins by Ian Oakes and two by Kath Hilton gave Meadow Hill B their 5-4 win in a close match with Ladybridge F.
Division Five leaders Hilton I scored a 7-2 win at Ladybridge G, trebles here for John Price and George Laks. The Hilton J team of Neil Dunn, Malcolm Wilcock and Stephen Ross moved into second place with a maximum points win against Ellesmere B, and the Ellesmere A team of Paul Jackson, Geoff Ainsworth and Tony Markland who are one point adrift in third place scored maximum points against their 'C' team. A treble from John Pilkington and two wins each for Jason Ganchi and Les Clough gave Hilton K their 7-2 win at Jubilee B, and three wins by Stephen Greenhalgh helped Ladybridge G to a 6-3 win at Meadow Hill.
