BOLTON Wanderers' youngster Chris Howarth has joined fellow academy scholar Michael Gillan, who was called up a fortnight ago, in being selected for the England under 16s squad for this year's Victory Shield Competition.
Local lads Chris and Michael have been named in coach Martin Hunter's squad of 22 players for the tournament, which kicks off against Northern Ireland at Rushden and Diamonds on Friday.
The game is being screened live on Sky Sports 1 at 8pm.
Goalkeeper Chris has been with the academy for three years and has been working closely with coaches Alex Smith and Steve Berryman.
Michael, who is a left-back, has been with the Wanderers for two years.
Wanderers' Academy Director Chris Sulley said: "We are very excited and pleased now that we have two players in the squad. They are both local lads who have worked very hard to achieve this honour.
"It is a huge pat on the back to all the staff in our academy, and is a great reward for all their hard work over the past three and a half years."
