RAIL commuters have welcomed possible moves to operate more trains along Bolton's tracks.

Many travellers said conditions on rush-hour services connecting Bolton to Manchester have improved, but the majority of passengers making daily trips said they encounter the same problems every day.

And after the BEN broke the news of plans to bid for more trains for travellers at Bolton train station, their view was unanimous: "The more trains the better!"

Stewart Wilkinson, aged 30, a Bolton Institute student who makes the three-hour round trip to and from Leeds each day, said: "It is a nightmare in the mornings. Yesterday I had to change trains at Manchester Piccadilly because it was so busy."

Bert Maloney, aged 61, from Bolton, added: "Things have got slightly better but people are still stood up. the more trains the better."

Rosemary Fardell, aged 25, from Bolton, who works in Manchester said "Sometimes they are bad but at other times they are all right. There is normally nowhere to sit. This is good news."

Commuter Elaine Price, aged 34 from Horwich, added: "Some days are better than others. I try to avoid the 5-5.30pm trains so this plan can only be good news."
