DETECTIVES want to speak to a driver who may hold vital information about an armed robbery.

Raiders who escaped with thousands of pounds from the Royal Bank of Scotland in Little Lever on September 11 had stolen a Nissan Micra belonging to the manageress that morning.

The three men forced her and a female passenger into the back of the vehicle at gunpoint after blocking the road with a Ford Galaxy people carrier before one of them drove the Micra along Bury Road in Breightmet towards Bolton.

The Micra was involved in a collision with what was believed to be a red Citroen Saxo in Bury Road, but police have been unable to trace the driver.

Swerve

Rush hour motorists were forced to swerve out of the way of the Galaxy and the Micra which sped off following the collision.

When both vehicles arrived at the bank in High Street the women bank workers were ordered to open the premises and were taken inside.

The alarm was raised after one of the woman hostages signalled to another colleague through the window as she was arriving for work. She ran to Little Lever health centre 100 yards away to contact police.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 0161-856-5476.
