IMAGES of Bolton are being used by civic leaders who hope they will help earn the town the title of City of Bolton.
An official brochure detailing Bolton's bid for city status reached government judges in London this week.
The brochure is packed with historic and cultural images Bolton's civic leaders hope will earn their town the coveted title of "city" at the third time of asking.
The glossy pamphlet features an array of Bolton images designed to show every aspect of life in the town.
And council chiefs believe the winning formula lies in emphasising the town's best asset -- its people.
Bolton's bid is titled "Bolton, because people make a city".
The brochure highlights Bolton's famous sons, landmarks, places of history and diverse cultures.
As reported in the BEN yesterday, the brochure also includes evidence that government judges will look for in awarding the title of city status -- history, forward-looking attitude, and notable features of regional or national significance.
Included in the brochure are Bolton's links with twin towns Paderborn in Germany and Le Mans in France.
Bolton's heritage is highlighted with images of historic Hall i'th' Wood Museum and Smithills Hall.
Bolton's arts are put on the map with references to the Bill Naughton Theatre.
Modern developments including the Reebok Stadium and Bolton's business achievements including Warbutons, the Middlebrook Complex and engineering company Watson's Steel are all attributes civic leaders hope will secure city status.
