AN UNDER-AGE driver was still fighting for his life today after crashing a stolen car head-on into a tree.

The boy, aged 15, from Radcliffe, was in a critical condition at Pendlebury Children's Hospital where he has undergone emergency surgery.

He suffered serious head and chest injuries after losing control of a Ford Escort on Hulme Road, Stoneclough, on Friday night.

A 16-year-old boy passenger suffered a minor head injury and lost part of a finger in the crash at about 11.40pm near the junction of Hall Road.

A 15-year-old girl broke her leg and two other female passengers, both aged 15, were allowed home after treatment at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

The car had been stolen earlier in the day from Bolton and police are anxious to trace any witnesses to the crash. Call PC Ian Beaumont on 0161 856 5972.
