A BOLTON primary school has something to crow about thanks to the newest member of the team - Jimmy Crack Corn the scarecrow.
The four foot tall creation is currently the centre of attention at Mytham County Primary, Mytham Road, as part of the school's Harvest Festival celebrations. Jimmy, who has pride of place in the school hall, was donated by the Mytham Ladies Rounders team - made up of staff and parents - to make the festivities even more fun.
Children were given the chance to conjure up a suitable name for their new friend and donations were made to school funds for every entry.
The winner Gareth Moxon, six, took the title Jimmy Crack Corn from the popular children's song of the same name.
Head-teacher Brian Essex said: "It's a very fitting and popular name."
He added: "We held our thanksgiving assembly and service at the school and while we don't know yet how much money Jimmy has raised yet he has certainly been a big help."
