A DISABLED woman was rescued from her blazing home after a fire broke out in the kitchen.
Christine Helm, who is confined to a wheelchair, was trapped on the first floor of the house in Scholes Street, Bury.
The woman, aged 47, rang the fire service from her bedroom at about 6.30pm on Saturday.
When the crew arrived, smoke was pouring from the bedroom window which Mrs Helm had smashed.
Firefighters had to break into the house because the front door was locked and after putting out the fire, they led her to safety down the stairs.
The firefighters also rescued her two budgies and parakeet and gave them oxygen outside.
Mrs Helm was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital suffering from the affects of smoke inhalation.
Detectives are investigating the cause of the fire.
