BURY'S Paddy Kenny was at the centre of a security alert during Saturday's defeat at Cambridge United.
An obscene and threatening note had been sent to Gigg Lane during the week warning that the goalkeeper was a target, revealed Bury chairman Terry Robinson.
"A threat was made against him and we phoned Cambridge to ask for the appropriate security measures to be put in place," said Robinson.
"We don't know who the note was from or whether it was a Bury supporter or not."
Despite the letter - which had a Bolton postmark - Kenny took to the field as usual and turned in a good display, saving a penalty.
It is thought the threat referred to a comment Kenny made in an interview. The club will continue to monitor the situation.
