DETECTIVES watching a home saw a man leave and dump empty cash boxes over a hedge.
The cash boxes had been taken during a robbery at a Spa supermarket in Clifton a few hours earlier.
Terrified staff had cowered as three masked men leapt over the counter and threatened them with iron bars.
The robbers escaped with two cash boxes and several large packets of cigarettes, a court heard yesterday.
The man police saw dumping the cash boxes was 19-year-old Philip Fisher, of Agrecroft Road West, Prestwich.
He appeared at Bolton Crown Court for sentence after admitting handling two cash boxes from the robbery on May 4 last year.
The court heard that the robbery took place at the Spa supermarket on Raikes Lane, Clifton, at 8pm.
Threatened
Three masked men burst into the shop and threatened the staff with iron bars, escaping with the cash boxes and large packs of cigarettes.
The court was told that Fisher, who was just 18 years old at the time, had been asked to dump the boxes by some men.
And even though he knew the cash boxes must have been connected to a major crime he agreed to throw away the empty boxes and had received no financial gain for his help, the court was told.
Judge Gillian Ruaux said it must have been very obvious to Fisher what he was getting involved in.
