Another injury stops game

FOR the second successive week the Leigh League had a game abandoned through a bad injury.

On 55 minutes of Horns Inn's home Redwaters Coronation Cup Round One tie with Fir Tree Rangers Reserves a player of the home team Andy Griffiths suffered a badly broken ankle. At the time his side led 2-1 Pitman and Tipping having scored but the tie will have to be replayed.

Elsewhere Howe Bridge Mills with goals from two goals each from David Sizer and David Hogan and one apiece from Ainscough and Paul Molyneux beat Concert Inn 6-2, Hughes and Radcliffe responding. Division One leaders Kersal Vale won 1-0 away at Fir Tree Rangers with home player Roberts tragically putting though his own net for the decisive goal. Moonraker took the lead at George VI on the half hour mark through Brooke only for the home team to bounce back for a 2-1 victory courtesy of goals from Farnworth and Green.

Asda Golborne were the day's giantkillers with a 4-3 win at Division One Three Crowns A after twice going behind. The home team goals came from Turner, Gibson and an own goal with the victorious Division Two outfit's hero being Evans with a hat-trick to add to one from Troyner.

In Division One Shaw (2), Menzies, Langin and Harris saw Rope & Anchor to a 5-1 away victory at Limelight, Sutton the home team marksman. Neil Hupton levelled in the very last minute for Hag Fold at home to Leigh Avenue in a 2-2 stalemate.

Anderson had given the visitors the lead on five minutes with Brian Hupton levelling on 53 only for Avenue to again take the lead on 66 minutes through Banks. Another 2-2 draw saw defending champions Higher Fold held at home by Royal Oak, France scoring both for the visitors and Darwin and Ashworth the home team scorers.

For Atherton Royals it was a case of being had by the "Dooleys" in the Division Two game at Courts as goals from John and Dave gave the home team a 2-0 victory.
