PLANS for a youth centre could be put on hold because of confusion about who owns the land of the proposed site.
Members of Adlington Town Council have been working hard for years to try and find funds for the major scheme which could cost up to £350,000.
It was believed developer Westbury Homes had bought the site of the former village tip at Highfield Road and they would contribute towards the cost of building the multi-purpose youth and community centre.
But members of the town council have been unable to find out if the deal has been completed and have now asked Chorley Borough Council if a temporary youth centre can be set up in the old social services building.
They hope the empty building in Railway Road, which became vacant 18 months ago, could be used as it is likely to be some time before work even begins at the Highfield Road site.
Cllr Jeanette Lowe, who has tirelessly campaigned for a youth centre in the village, said: "My main concern is that there is still no progress on the youth centre.
"Even if we use just the cellar of the social services building as a temporary measure, it would be better than nothing as there is a severe lack of youth facilities in Adlington."
There are no permanent places for young people from the village to meet at the moment and despite the efforts of part-time out-reach workers employed by Lancashire County Council, many youngsters have nothing to do in the evenings and at weekends.
