Leigh RMI 2 Scarborough 1 (on golden goal)
LEIGH RMI ensured a second round tie against Football League opposition with a dramatic comeback to oust Conference colleagues Scarborough at Hilton Park, writes Martyn Hindley.
Leigh had gone close on a number of occasions but were punished for fluffing chances when the visitors David Pounder's scored three minutes into the second half.
It was only with the introduction of midfielder Andy Heald that Leigh found an extra edge in attack and levelled proceedings with14 minutes left.
Fisher found Kielty in space on the right hand side and from his teasing cross, super sub Heald deservedlyheaded his first goal for the club.
Leigh should have wrapped up the tie in the final minute of normal time after a sensational melee that yielded four clear opportunities in thirty seconds.
But it went into extra time, with both sides knowing the first to score would win.
Red-carded
And Leigh managed it within 35 seconds! Dino Maamria was played in by Andy Heald and was cynically upended by Scarborough keeper Woods. The number one was red carded leaving replacement keeper Paul Newton the sole task of picking the ball from the back of the net after Maamria had netted the penalty. RMI return to league action on Saturday when they face Surrey side Woking at Hilton Park. Kick-off is at 3pm.
