I AM in total agreement with Mr Pantelides and Roy Walmsley regarding the proliferation of housing in the Lostock and Heaton areas.

In the past few years, in the villages of Lostock and Chew Moor, there has been what has seemed like a relentless quest by the Council to build more and more housing on less and less land.

Before the closure of the bridge on Rumworth Road, this road was treated as a race track by motorists cutting through to Westhoughton and Chew Moor, and was exacerbated by the new developments in the area.

Now we have yet another proposed development to fight against ( already rejected once) on land next to Lostock station which, as anyone who has tried to get out of the station car park at peak times will tell you, is preposterous.

The number of road junctions with restricted access in this area, together with the increase in traffic and drivers' quest to get from 'a' to 'b' as quickly as possible with total disregard for the safety of anyone who might get in the way, is a disaster which has already happened twice - a schoolgirl was knocked down on Rumworth Road earlier this year.

We also send our condolences to the family of Alex Pomfret, and plead with the Council to think twice before approving more development, before another family has to suffer in the same way.
