A NEW website was launched this week to keep people up to date with developments on Chorley's Gillibrand Link Road project.

The Lancashire County Council website went on line at Chorley Library on Monday -- as part of Local Democracy Week.

The authority says the site is an example of how the council is developing its approach to 'e-government'. Visitors can find out more about the scheme, browse Frequently Asked Questions and contact the county council directly by email.

County Councillor Nora Ward, cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "The internet provides an excellent way to keep people up-to-date with events in their local area. The Gillibrand Link project is bound to cause a great deal of interest as the scheme progresses and through our site people can find answers to their questions at any time."

Chorley county councillor Alan Whittaker, cabinet member for education and young people, said: "The county council is very keen to use modern technology to keep people in touch with key issues.

"Local schools are also interested in the project from an educational point of view and this is the perfect opportunity for youngsters interested in engineering to find out more."

Local schoolchildren will soon be invited to enter a competition to design a poster to alert youngsters to the dangers of straying on to the construction site.

The winning designer will be presented with a computer for their school.
