D-DAY is fast approaching for the annual Adlington Carnival.
And 'D' stands for decision as show bosses prepare to discuss the future of the cash-strapped event which is hanging in the balance.
They will gather for a committee meeting in the village on Tuesday, October 30, to decide whether the 30-year-old summer carnival, which has attracted top celebrities down the years, can continue.
Press officer Colin Prescott said: "The decision will be taken on the thirtieth when the committee meets. Personally I think it will go ahead.
"It is too good an event, too big an event, brings too much money into the village and too much enjoyment to people to lose it now."
Meanwhile, the carnival has said goodbye to long-standing chairman Bill Bayliss who served it for 20 years.
He stood down at the annual general meeting when vice-chairman Mike Thompson also stood down, but remained on the committee. Three other committee members have also left.
Mr Prescott added: "We have got some new names. We are starting off with a blank sheet of paper for the carnival next year, so it will be different.
"We are working very hard behind the scenes and halfway to securing next year's carnival. Local businesses are still needed to help in kind or with sponsorship.
"We are virtually a new look carnival using new look procedures and streamlining things."
An appeal has gone out for a local MD, or company director, who could put in a couple of hours work a month, using their expertise to steer the carnival in the right direction.
