TWO brothers have been cleared of murdering a friend after a pub row in Hindley, but both were convicted of manslaughter after a 12 day trial.
Andrew Pilkington, aged 20, of Bridgewater Street, Hindley, was jailed for nine years at Manchester Crown Court.
He was also found guilty of unlawfully wounding the dead man, Paul Akister, aged 30, in an incident inside the Bonnie Lasses pub in Market Street, Hindley, which led to a fight outside.
He also admitted two earlier and unrelated charges of unlawfully wounding other men -- one a pub glassing of a stranger in Leigh.
Pilkington's brother, Darren, of the same address, was given four years detention.
The two brothers had both denied murdering jobless Mr Akister last November.
Andrew Pilkington had also denied wounding Mr Akister with intent in a "glassing" incident just before the fight.
Prosecutor Anthony Rumbelow QC, told the jury that occurred in a row between the pair in the Bonnie Lasses, Market Street, Hindley.
The jury -- seven women and five men -- spent more than nine hours in retirement considering verdicts.
