PRIMARY pupils are riding the crest of a wave after discovering the mysteries of canal life.
The 10 year olds from Westleigh Methodist Primary School are being awarded certificates by British Waterways for their project on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.
The class of 10-year-olds at Westleigh Methodist Primary School will be visited tomorrow during school assembly by senior boatman Brian Robinson.
British Waterways were so impressed with pupils' work in the Leigh Education Action Zone project that Mr Robinson decided to check out school activities relating to the programme.
The class will recount their experiences on the Leigh branch of the canal to the rest of the school.
One pupil will win a special prize of a family ticket to Standedge Visitor Centre on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal -- home of the highest, longest and deepest canal tunnel in the country. The purpose of the pupils' visit to the canal was to discover the mysteries of canal life, past and present and now the youngsters' enthusiasm for that project will be rewarded.
Mr Robinson was delighted by the enthusiasm shown by the youngsters and will now present them with certificates of merit.
