AN elderly woman has spoken of the terrifying moment she woke to find two burglars in her bedroom.

Joyce Grundy was lying in her bed when she saw a man shining a torch over her dressing table in the early hours of yesterday.

The 69-year-old woman was too frightened to move and pretended to be asleep while the men searched her bedroom, including the wardrobe.

The burglars had broken into the house in Westminster Avenue at about 2am by smashing a panel in the front door.

When they left, Mrs Grundy discovered they had taken her combined television and video, a vacuum cleaner and a box of her medication.

She said: "I heard a noise and thought it was next door.

"I opened my eyes and there was a man shining a torch at the side of my bed and looking at my dressing table.

"He was looking in the wardrobe when another man came into the bedroom.

"They knew I was there and at one point, the man with the torch shined it right in my face.

"He could see I was watching them. I felt sick. I just pretended to be asleep at first. I was very shaken.

"I always thought something like this happened to other people, not me."

Mrs Grundy was not wearing her glasses and has only been able to give a limited description to the police.

The first man was white and was wearing a white jacket and white baseball cap. His partner was wearing a beige baseball cap.

Sgt Bill Crittenden of Bolton Police said: "It is absolutely devastating for the victim.

"It is very frightening to wake up and find someone in your bedroom.

"You should be able to feel safe in your own home and we would ask anyone with information to come forward."
