One of a band of Bolton based players, the 23-year-old left hander from Sussex broke into the world's top 100 for the first time this summer, propelling him to his current spot of British No.3.
A member of both 2001 British Davis Cup teams which defeated Portugal 5-0 in the spring and Ecuador 4-1 last month to return to the World Group, Martin has also enjoyed his best year as a singles competitor. In June he reached the quarter finals of the Samsung Open in Nottingham, where he lost to Greg Rusedski. A week later at Wimbledon he made the second round and met Tim Henman. On the downside, he is an avid Millwall fan but we all have our problems!
