I BELIEVE that Mr Pantiledes' letter in the BEN about the traffic on Chorley New Road put into words the feelings of most Lostock residents.
After hearing about the fatal accident near Fall Birch Road some months ago, I wrote to Bolton Metro asking whether some safety measures could be taken to slow the traffic down and received the response that the volume of traffic did not merit any further action. There has now been another tragic accident resulting in the death of a young man, whose family must be devastated. I wonder how many more people have to be killed along this stretch of road for the area to qualify? I would suggest that at least two things need to be done --
1. Traffic lights at Regent Road, a very dangerous junction, to break up and slow down the relentless traffic flow between Beaumont Road and the Beehive roundabout
2. A refusal by Bolton Planning Department to allow any more applications to convert single dwellings into apartment blocks. This road and its surrounding residents are already coping with too much traffic and no more development which will lead to an increase in numbers should be permitted.
It is time the council recognised the protests of the increasingly desperate ratepayers in this area and took a responsible attitude towards their safety.
