WE would like to comment on your article in Thursday night's Bolton Evening News (October 11), regarding the library at Blackrod.
Firstly -- Why anyone would think the spikes are sharp and dangerous is beyond belief, unless people are climbing on them.
Also anyone coming home late at night should have no problems because the footpaths are well lit, that is unless they want to act the fool.
Secondly -- It is completely untrue to say the kids have been meeting there for years. Most of the undersigned have lived in the Avenue and Close even before the library was built.
Thirdly -- The lady thinks the place looks like Colditz. We have news for the lady who wishes to remain anonymous, it was like being in Colditz before the alterations were made.
Fourthly -- Here are some of the facts about the kid's meeting place, described by the lady:
Underage drinking
Foul language
Climbing on the roof of the library
Urinating in the gap between the library and the doctor's surgery. Girls as well as boys.
The police were so fed up with the problem, they called a meeting with the residents and council officials.
To get money out of Bolton Council for anything in Blackrod is like getting blood out of a stone, so to convince them of the problem is a credit to Blackrod Council.
The undersigned all live in Blackhorse Close and Blackhorse Avenue.
