WITH reference to the BEN articles of October 12 regarding Bolton's city bid.
This is not a case of Big Sam's Super Whites magnificent start to the season, and a case of "If it works why fix it?" (Newcastle farce excluded).
Bolton's city bid, I quote, "will remain a low key affair -- identical to the approach used in the past two attempts" -- these were disastrous!! And failed, hence we NEED to fix it, NOT repeat it. In essence we need a very HIGH profile campaign.
Whereas the likes of Stockport and Preston -- a town of approximately a quarter of Bolton's population -- rage about being cities in all but name, surely a feather that should be Bolton's cap not theirs.
Councillor Bob Howarth appears on North West Tonight and talks about us becoming a city because of our Premiership football team!
"Small" neighbouring Blackburn had above all of their borough boundary signs large city bid plaques. Bolton hasn't even got any boundary signs on half of the main entrances to the borough, eg Adlington to Horwich or Adlington to Blackrod among many others, let alone city bid plaques.
Failure on our third bid is not an option, let us take a very high profile approach. Quash our "pretenders" and "rivals" and become the city in name that we already are in nature. Take no prisoners this time!
