A 19-YEAR-OLD Bolton girl used a cheque belonging to her mother to buy three bottles of brandy and other items from a supermarket.
Blackburn magistrates were told that the mother knew nothing about the transaction because she was in hospital, but had not pressed for charges to be brought.
Caroline Pilkington, of Brookfield Street, Bolton, pleaded guilty to making a false instrument and failing to answer bail. Stephen Parker, defending, said Pilkington's mother had told police she did not want to pursue the matter.
"It is one of those situations where, had the matter not been detected, she would have realised the cheque had been written by her daughter and would not have queried the transaction with the bank,"said Mr Parker.
She was fined £75 and ordered to pay £25 towards prosecution costs.
