MOVE over Robocop because there is a new kid in town and he is Bolton Council's latest weapon in the battle against a monster mountain of rubbish.

Recycler - a robot made entirely from recycled materials is visiting schools to spread the waste not, want not message.

This week he began his tour at St James Primary, Daisy Hill, and had children singing along with his rubbish-related rap.

Recycler has been drafted in as part of a council campaign to encourage more people to become more aware of green issues and not just consign everything to the wheelie bin.

The Slim Your Bin campaign hopes to reduce the amount of household waste in Bolton by at least a third, according to recycling officer Jim Cunnliffe.

In just six months the amount of rubbish accumulated by Bolton residents would fill Victoria Square to the height of the town hall clock.

And everyone can do their bit by thinking about how they can cut down on waste.

"There are 15 recycling sites across the borough where people can take their recyclables," said Mr Cunliffe. "The three amenity sites can take an even wider range of material and we would like more people to use them to help us conquer Bolton's waste mountain."
