ARMED police were called to a flat in Great Lever after receiving reports of a man with a gun.

It is believed there was a domestic dispute at the flat in Cecilia Court at about 5.30pm yesterday.

Police were given a description of the suspected gunman but were unsure which flat he was in.

Six firearm officers were joined by plain clothed and uniform colleagues outside the flat.

They eventually burst in and made a search but no weapon was found.

A 35-year-old man was arrested for an unrelated offence.

Insp Philip Haworth said: "We received a report there was an armed man on the premises.

"We took all the necessary precautions to protect the public, but it was later discovered that he didn't have a weapon."
