ALEX Bogdanovic tomorrow hopes to show top seed Martin Lee just how well his game is coming on at the National Championships at the Bolton Arena.
The 17-year-old was beaten easily by Lee in the first round of last year's championships, but secured a chance of revenge after losing only two games during his win over Ian Flanagan yesterday.
Bogdanovic is the shining light of the LTA's intermediate squad coached by Tito Vasquez - and he entered the nationals on the back of a stirring year which saw him become the first Briton ever to reach the semi-finals of the US Open juniors.
"It will be a really good opportunity to learn against Martin," he said.
"He's a great example of how hard work can get you into the world's top 100.
"I've got a chance if I play well, but it's tough. I lost in the first round to Martin last year, but this year I'm a lot more confident and stronger as a player."
As well as his heroics at Flushing Meadows, Bogdanovic won the Uruguay Bowl in Montevideo and was rewarded by being named as the designated hitter for Great Britain's Davis Cup match against Portugal.
"The Davis Cup tie was unbelievable, and it's still in my head," he said.
"It gave me all the motivation I need to keep working and maybe one day be a part of the full squad."
Lee cruised through his first-round match 6-2 7-5 against Ben Haran - and the only men's seed to fall on the first day was Luke Milligan, who was beaten 7-6 7-5 by James Nelson.
