I WISH to nominate this week's "Rat (or Rats) of the Week".

In the early hours of Thursday, October 18, some idiot (or idiots) thought it would be great fun to set a wheelie bin on fire and drag it up the driveway of my sister's house and push it under her disabled husband's car. I'm sure they would like to know that the car (a three-month-old Mobility car) has been written off by the insurance company. Also, if they care to walk past my sister's house, they will no doubt see the damage to her front door -- thank God it is a fire door, otherwise they would have been burned to death in their beds, and, no, this is not an exaggeration.

But for the fast action of two young men on their way home from work, this would not have been a letter in the BEN but a front page story. My sister and her husband are now going to be without transport for up to six weeks until the insurance has been sorted, leaving my 72-year-old brother-in-law housebound. They also have to pay the excess on the car and house insurance, leaving them out of pocket through no fault of their own.

What on earth is this world coming to? Is there not enough evil and destruction, without some mindless idiots adding to it?

As they say, what goes around comes around. As far as I'm concerned, the sooner the better, but it never happens to people like them, only to innocent law-abiding people.
