WHEN this photograph appeared in the Evening News on June 6, 1946, the caption read:
"Some of the girls of Derby Street Secondary Modern School enjoying a Victory Day celebration party, which they helped to prepare; the party was preceded by a fancy dress party."
Mr R. Davies, who sent the picture to me, tells me that his late wife Dorothy (Durham) is on the left, just behind the vase of lupins in the centre.
He also tells me that a reunion of past pupils from Derby Street Secondary School and White Bank Secondary School, from between 1940 and 1950, has been arranged for November 2, at Astley Bridge Cricket Club, starting at 7.30pm. If anyone wants further information, you can contact Mr Davies at 13, Bushell Street, Deane, BL3 4HQ (Tel: 64505).
