MAY I reply to Mr Banks' comments about me (BEN October 19).

I am not aware of criticising clinical standards at Royal Bolton Hospital.

I have criticised medical and administrative management.

I have criticised the fact that there was a failure to establish the potential use of this hospital and create the necessary infrastructure initially.

This hospital was built on a green field site. It was half completed before it was recognised that there was not sufficient access for ambulances and a patch-up plan for some road widening took place belatedly.

The car parking facilities are a monument to the standard of planning at Royal Bolton Hospital?

I am quite sure, should I require it, I would have excellent treatment on the operating table.

That is, if I could survive getting there and 10 hours on a trolley.
