NURSES were left disappointed when only three people turned up to a charity auction they organised to help their patients.
Staff on the J2 ward at the Royal Bolton Hospital decided they would have to postpone the event because so few bidders attended.
They are now hoping to rearrange the event in the next few weeks and are looking for a venue, such as a pub, where they can hold the auction.
The nurses on the ward had gathered an exciting assortment of items, including tickets to watch Bolton Wanderers, an autographed Lancashire Cricket Club bat, an original Coronation Street script and a signed and framed Manchester City shirt.
They were hoping for a good turnout at the auction last weekend so they would raise as much money as possible for their patients, who suffer from Alzeimer's disease and other dementias.
Carol Evans, a health care assistant and fund-raiser for the ward, said: "We are all just so disappointed.
"I think the weather may have been to blame and there isn't much public transport to the hospital on a Sunday."
Many of the patients on J2 stay in the hospital for long periods of time and nurses and relatives began raising cash 12 months ago to pay for days out and improve the look of the ward.
Other items on offer at the auction were a Playstation, children's cycle, scooter, family tickets to watch the Manchester Giants and Manchester Storm and a free meal at a restaurant.
If you own a pub, or similar venue, and would like to help the nurses, call Carol on 390804. NURSES were left disappointed when only three people turned up to a charity auction they organised to help their patients.
