RECENTLY I've read several letters, including one from the BEN, strongly supporting Bolton's third attempt at gaining city status.
Bolton, why do you want to be a city?
It wouldn't alter either the environment or quality of life of the "citizens" one bit. Is it the "status" thing again.
Similar to home addresses - living in a Close or and Avenue is much "better" than living in a Street?
Town/City conflicts are non-existent in the USA; every hick town wherever is a city.
Maybe this should be adopted in the UK? I'd visit the City of Blackrod to have a pint of beer when next I enjoy a trip to Bolton.
I'm a Boltonian born and bred.
I'll always maintain that I am a Lancastrian (as opposed to a Greater Mancunian following Edward Heath's invidious changes to county lines).
And I'm proud to be from a Northern industrial TOWN.
