MP DAVID Crausby is seeking to close legal loopholes which allow for the withdrawal of treatment for some terminally ill patients. He says he is ready to take a case to the European Court of Human Rights.

Yet Mr Crausby also says he is concerned at the manner in which courts are increasingly taking over the role of government and making changes to the law on a wide range of issues.

Maybe the MP for Bolton North East should leave these decisions to those best qualified, ie the British Medical Association, whose guidelines allow the withdrawal of treatment from some patients.

Obviously, this withdrawal of treatment should only be done after consultation with two or more doctors, the staff concerned, the family of the patient, and, wherever possible, the patients themselves.

If we are talking about human rights, Mr Crausby, what about the rights of humans to die with dignity?.

Brian Iddon also says he is against euthanasia in all its forms. This saddens me, as I see no point in prolonging agony just for the sake of it.

By all means, tighten up these guidelines and let us be sure that there is full consultation before any decisions to withdraw treatment are made, but, please allow those who want to die with dignity to do so.
