POLICE were today examining CCTV footage in their hunt for the gang who ram-raided the Lloyds TSB Bank in Farnworth.
Two men driving a stolen BMW 316i, registration A2 YAK, reversed into the rear of the premises in Market Street at about 10.30am yesterday.
They ran into the bank with three other men. All five were wearing balaclavas and two were armed with a shotgun and a 9mm handgun.
The robbers stole an undisclosed amount of cash and escaped in a V-reg Vauxhall Cavalier.
Eyewitnesses saw the raiders drive off at speed down side streets. A lorry driver attempted to block their path but they managed to get away.
No shots were fired during the raid and no one was injured.
A witness said: "I was walking past the bank when I heard a big bang.
"I saw a car reversing into the building and these men jumped out."
"The security guard from the Aldi store opposite came running over but I couldn't do anything, I was quite shocked."
Anyone with information should call Farnworth CID on 0161 856 5840.
