A HIGH dependency unit has benefited from a £130,000 refurbishment.
The funding, by Bolton Council's Housing and Social Services departments, has meant improvements to The Eldon Street High Dependency Unit, a complex of 32 flats which helps people live independently.
Communal areas including the dining room, lounge, bathroom and toilets, have benefited as well as security fencing around the building and residents helped with the design of the new look. The unit is run by Bolton Council for vulnerable older people, many of whom live alone.
It provides a service where these people and their families know there are staff available to assist them to maintain living independently. Bolton Council runs two more high dependency units -- Campbell House in Farnworth and Merton in Deane, both of which have been refurbished in recent years. Potential tenants are referred to social services and their needs are assessed.
