A CHARITY for the homeless based in Bolton has helped 2,500 people in the town since being set up eight years ago.
Bolton Bond Board was one of the first charities of its type, and is now desperate for male volunteers to step forward. Of the thousands helped by the scheme, 85 per cent have been men.
Volunteer co-ordinator, Sinead O'Connor, said: "We like to have a volunteer team which our clients can relate to.
"The majority of homeless people are men. In reality anyone can apply to become a volunteer but I feel that men often have particular life experiences which enable them to understand the needs of our clients."
No previous experience is necessary and free training is given. There is also an induction course.
Sinead said: "The work is challenging and people very quickly develop their skills and knowledge. The induction course prepares people for the work ahead, then supervision and team support provide the rest."
