BOLTON'S Motor Taxation Office at Paderborn House will cease to deal with driving licences from tomorrow along with local authority offices throughout the country. All licences will be issued from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre at Swansea in future.
BRITISH Rail plans to increase rail fares by an average 12 per cent in the New Year. The fares last went up in March by an average 12 per cent.

THE British Electricity Authority began on Monday a system of giving to every user of electricity a "day of risk". On his "day of risk" each user - private or industrial - will suffer cuts in the electricity supply as and when necessary.
Our "day of risk" is Friday. If, therefore, on any Friday your Evening News is late, or does not arrive at all, please do not blame your newsagent or your newspaper. We shall do our utmost to serve you in the difficult situation. Please also do not telephone us. It will only make our task more difficult.
The help of the consumer is also called for. He is earnestly asked to keep off the peak periods, namely: 8 o'clock to 12 noon. 4 o'clock to 5.30pm.

October 30, 1876
THE funeral of Police-sergeant Peter Brown took place on Thursday afternoon, at the Cemetery, a number of the police force being in attendance. The deceased, who was 36 years of age, died on Saturday, from consumption, after an illness of 21 weeks, and leaves a wife and five children. He joined the borough police force on the 8th January, 1862, and was made sergeant on the 6th May, 1874. He had the character of a steady and obliging officer.
VISITORS to the Museum in connection with the Free Library, Town Hall Square, have at the present time the opportunity of witnessing a most interesting model of an Isle of Man steamer.
