Eagley win delights manager EAGLEY took the Premier Division derby honours with a 2-1 home win over Tempest United - a win that particularly pleased Villagers team boss Pete Darby, who last season was with the opposing camp.
"We played really well," he beamed. "The partnership up front between Paul Gallagher and Mel Bentham is beginning to look really good. We hit the bar twice and had one cleared off the line so we were well worth the win.
"Having said that their goal came from a penalty after our keeper brought their lad down. I have to admit I felt it should have been a sending off as well so in that respect we can count ourselves lucky.
"We play Tempest again this Saturday at their place in the Richardson Cup so it was good to get the league win under our belts."
Bentham opened the scoring from Clinton McLoughlin's cross and, after Darren Maloney had put away the visitors' penalty, scrambled home the decisive second on 75 minutes.
Dean Johnson and Gary Lovatt scored for Eagley Reserves in a fine 2-0 away win at Fleetwood Hesketh. Goals from Harburry (2), Pallett (2) and Jordan eased Blackrod Town Reserves to a 5-1 home victory over Poulton Town.
Higginbottom (2), Crowe and Brookes earned Turton Reserves a 4-2 win at Springfields but Tempest United Reserves went down 3-1 at home to Fulwood Amateurs A, Grundy geting the consolation goal.
Stoneclough 2nds drew 0-0 at home with Haslingden St Marys.
