Avenue's winning way EXTRA time was needed to find a winner in the Carl Brown Memorial Trophy Round One clash between Leigh Avenue and Division One table-toppers Rope & Anchor.

Paul Banks opened the scoring after only four minutes for Avenue but by the 20th minute Steve Harris has scored twice to put the visitors in the driving seat.

It stayed at 2-1 until the 89th minute when Greg Anderton levelled. Buoyed on by this late revival Avenue scored twice more in the extra 30 minutes through Steve Ackers and Ross Prentis for a 4-2 win.

In the first round of the Sharman Cup, goals from Danny Jackson and Danny Flynn sandwiched an own goal from teammate Chris Radcliffe to give Concert Inn a 2-1 away win at Ukranian Club. The Redwaters Coronation Cup saw Shane Brennan and Danny Wilcox goals give FC Legion a 2-1 home win over Bowling Green, Shaun Roberts getting the reply in the very last minute.

Paul Cooper, Chris Sutton and Tommy Hollywood saw AFC Limelight register a Division One win by a 3-1 home margin over Fir Tree Rangers, Mark Fielding scoring for the visitors. In Division Two Jason Halliday scored on 56 minutes for Fir Tree Rangers Reserves to spare teammate Gary Smith,s blushes as he had put through his own goal on the half hour mark in the 1-1 draw at Three Crowns B.

The big game this coming Saturday sees Division One defending champions Higher Fold travel to highly rated new boys Kersal Vale.
