ON my journey from Bromley Cross in the early mornings, I am appalled by the number of cyclists oblivious to the fact that they are on roads without lights on their bikes, and wearing dark clothes.
While only common sense and the police will persuade the older section of this group to change their ways, the group I am most concerned about can adapt overnight. These are the paper boys and girls.
I would suggest that parents/paper shops/BEN implement a "duty of responsibility" in ensuring that not one of these youngsters starts off from home in a morning or evening without taking all safety precautions.
No amount of convenience in having newspapers delivered to our homes can be weighted against a cyclist being injured or killed, in addition to the trauma of an innocent motorist having to live with being involved in an accident. Parents/paper shops/BEN -- take action now before it is too late.
