ASTHMATIC sisters Margaret Farmer and Anne Hynes are facing a tough challenge in darkest Peru -- as they brace themselves for altitudes of over 11,000 ft.
The two nurses will be heading for Machu Picchu in spring to follow the ancient Inca trail to raise money for the cerebral palsy charity, Scope.
They are hoping to raise more than £5,000 in a charity disco at Formby Hall, Atherton, on Saturday, to fund their trip.
Margaret, aged 50, a clinical nurse for Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Hospitals Trust, said: "We have always wanted to travel and this was a great way of raising money at the same time.
"We are both asthmatic and have very dodgy knees but we will be training to make sure that we can keep up with the rest of the team. We'll have to do a lot of gym work and walking before we go, as it is very high altitude."
Margaret and Anne, a retired Bolton community health nurse, will set off on May 9 with fellow Scope fund-raisers.
The two have also been busy carrying out local fundraising stunts such as a fancy dress pub crawl to raise money for the charity.
Saturday's disco starts at 7pm with tickets costing £7 including entertainment from the Abba tribute band, Abba-solutely live and DJ Siouxie Dee.
Tickets are available by ringing Margaret on 01942 515252 or Anne, a retired Bolton community health worker, on 01204 62748.
