FORMER Bury Football Club manager and assistant manager Sam Ellis is mourning the death of his son in a road accident.
Mr Ellis' son Timothy James, aged 28, suffered multiple injuries in the incident on the A583 Kirkham by-pass between Preston and Blackpool on Monday.
He had been a psychiatric patient at the Royal Preston Hospital and he is believed to have stepped out into the path of a heavy goods vehicle.
Mr Ellis is now assistant manager at Burnley FC.
Burnley chairman Barry Kilby tried to get last night's match against Gillingham cancelled as a mark of respect but Football League officials refused.
Following the match Burnley manager Stan Ternent said: "I'll keep this short and sweet," he said. "I thought the lads showed fantastic character and all our thoughts and prayers are with the Ellis family."
Blackpool police confirmed today that witnesses had come forward, but they were still appealing for information to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
