IN reply to the letter from Mrs Gault on the 'Green Lions' on the Town Hall Square.
It seems fortuitous that Bolton Council has just been awarded The Green Apple Award for reduction in waste pollution and emissions. More than 180 authorities entered for the award, with Bolton being awarded Metropolitan Borough Council National Winner, England National Winner, and British Champion 2001.
One of the consequences of relative clean air is the increase growth of algae and other simple organisms as seen on roof tiles and slates throughout the Borough. I am sure that people would rather have say Green Lions than going back to the days of smog other polluting conditions, which caused many illnesses.
I would say that Bolton should be congratulated on winning the Green Apple Award under the MACC2 Scheme.
