sentence appeal A MOTORIST convicted of causing the deaths of two young students was today due to launch an appeal against his seven-and-a-half year sentence.
Gursharan Singh Panesar was jailed earlier this year at Nottingham Crown Court, over the deaths of 21-year-old Alexandra Veeder, of Whitefield, and her university friend, Robert Bradley, aged 20, of Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
His car mounted the pavement and ploughed into the pair as they walked home from an end of term party. Mr Bradley died after being impaled on nearby railings, and Miss Veeder later died of her injuries.
Panesar, a former Nottingham University student of Alperton, West London, had driven to Nottingham for a reunion party with friends before the tragedy on December 15 last year.
He was calculated by police to be three times over the legal drink drive limit, and had been doing at least 40 mph when he lost control of his car.
His appeal was due to be heard in London today by Lord Justice Potter, Mrs Justice Rafferty and Judge Kenneth Zucker.
