AN EYE for an eye-catching image has worked wonders for schoolgirl Nicola Liston after her grand designs were chosen to front a major Bolton drive to improve reading skills.
Turton High School pupil Nicola, aged 15, was one of a host of pupils invited to submit designs for a logo for the new Bolton Literacy Trust (BLT) which will be launched in the town in January.
The BLT, which was created by Bolton Local Education Authority employers and the Government, aims improve reading skills in people of all ages through workshops, computer courses and other means.
But any great scheme needs a great logo, which is where Nicola came in.
BLT co-ordinator Sue Hoey explained: "We approached Turton School because it is a media centre and asked pupils to come up with designs to encompass reading and learning as well as Bolton's mascot of an elephant.
"Nicola's design seems to best encapsulate all these elements and was made into a logo by a professional graphic artist."
She added: "It is a very striking image and will now be on all the promotional material for the launch of the BLT as well as all our stationery and letterheads."
