fireworks safety REMEMBER, remember the fifth of November -- but don't forget the fireworks code.
DO Only buy fireworks marked BS7114
Keep fireworks in a sealed box
Follow the instructions and read them in daylight
Light fireworks at arms length with a taper
Always wear gloves when lighting sparklers and light them one at a time
Keep all pets indoors
After the display use tongs or gloves to collect spent fireworks
Bonfires should be at least 18 metres (60ft) away from houses, trees, hedges, fences or sheds.
DON'T:
Don't drink alcohol if setting off fireworks
Do not go back to a lit firework
Do not put fireworks in your pocket
Do not throw fireworks
Never use petrol, paraffin or other flammable liquids near fireworks
Don't try to buy fireworks under age -- the age limit for firework sales is now 18, except for caps, party poppers, serpents, throwdowns, novelty matches and cracker snaps, for which the age remains at 16. Be prepared! On the night you will need a torch for reading instructions, buckets of water, eye protection and gloves, a board for flat-bottomed fireworks, suitable supports for Catherine wheels and proper launchers for rockets.
