From back page Follow the Wanderers every day in the BEN REEBOK BOUND?: Richard Dutruel SAM Allardyce is ready to wheel and deal to establish Wanderers as a Premiership force.

Putting the final touches to the mega-deal he hopes will bring Barcelona goalkeeper, Richard Dutruel to the Reebok, the Bolton boss insisted today that he has no intention of letting a lack of cash stand in the way of his team building plans.

"If a new player comes along with the right ability, I would always be pushing the board to buy him," he confirmed, "even if that means I have to offer a few of the squad players or the lesser players into the transfer market."

Dutruel, who was Barca's first choice keeper until new coach Roberto Bonano arrived at the Nou Camp in the summer, is one of a number of highly-rated targets Allardyce has identified. But financial constraints, which have restricted him to loan deals and modest transfers since promotion, have prevented him following up many of the leads.

Now, he says, he is prepared to generate his own cash, although he will not weaken his current squad until the reinforcements are in place.

"I'll have to have the player in first," he insists. "I'll buy first and trade after because you can't afford to leave yourself thin on the ground.

"But as much as I love every player here, if it comes to the stage where I need to sell, I will go down that route.

"I've always wheeled and dealed - that's every manager's job. Every club does it.

"It's a means to an end - it's the way of bringing in better players than you already have."

Dutruel, who has been capped by France, is expected to join Wanderers on loan until the end of the season with an option to make the switch a permanent one. Sources in Spain have reported that the loan "fee" could be as high as £700,000.

Allardyce, who has convinced his board that the investment will reap rewards, says: "I am fortunate a keeper of his stature wants to join the football club. How can I turn that down.

"It gives me great security in that position. It's no longer a position I need to worry about.

"He was only out of the side because of a change of coach. He has a quality pedigree."

The 28-year-old former Paris St Germain and Celta Vigo keeper, who has been overtaken at Barca by 19-year-old Jose Manuel Reina, would leapfrog Steve Banks in the pecking order if he made the move. But he would not displace current number one, Jussi Jaaskelainen.

"He knows it would be a number two situation and not a number one," the manager confirmed.

Wanderers have been drawn at home to Bradford City in the third round of the FA Youth Cup. The tie must be played by Monday, December 8.
