PRESTWICH Heys became the second team to make the semi-finals of this season's Goldline Trophy after a slender victory over Blackrod Town.
Both teams cancelled each other out in a game that was eagerly anticipated as game of the round but Prestwich looked to have done enough to join Charnock Richard in the last four when they broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time. Brandon Jolly was the man on target for Prestwich but there was precious little else to get excited about as the second half continued to produce something of a stalemate. Prestwich made sure of the victory when Russell Headley slammed home the second with five minutes remaining but Blackrod ensured a grandstand finish two minutes later when the Prestwich defence stood rooted to the spot as Lee Dootson fired a low shotinto the bottom corner. However, it was too little, too late for Town who crashed out of the competition. The competition - in asssociation with the Bolton Evening News - will return to Crilly Park next Thursday (8th November) when local sides Atherton Collieries and Daisy Hill will meet in the third quarter-final. Kick-off at Atherton LR is at 7:30pm. PS: David - You asked me to remind you to book a press ticket for me at Scarborough on Saturday. Take care, and I will see yu at the Dover match. Cheers Martyn
