OVER the past few weeks I have featured stories of local scouts going to World Jamborees. They have brought a letter from Mr Roderick Crompton, of Broad o'th' Lane, Bolton, who tells me that in 1964 (until 1968) he and his family were migrants living in Melbourne, Australia, and attended the South Pacific Australian Jamboree.
"When at the Jamboree I wore my 6th Bolton (Eagley) uniform (yes, with long trousers) with my two sons wearing their khaki uniforms causing quite a stir. I was in fact mistaken as the Chief Scout, mainly due to my uniform and my Pommy face.
"My eldest son Frank exchanged neckerchiefs with a Wolf Cub from New South Wales.
"Consequently, when we returned to our home in Bayswater, Melbourne, we founded the 12th Knox (Somers Area) Scouts and Wolf Cubs.
"Incidentally, the Bayswater boys' soccer team borrowed My Goals Galore (Nat Lofthouse's biography) - and they still have it!"
