KATIE Smith scored a runaway victory in the Under 15 girls race as Bolton Harriers dominated their home fixture in the Red Rose League.

Two individual race wins and three team victories made it a successful day out for the host club at a sunny but muddy Leverhulme Park.

The Under 15 girls, series is proving to be of keen interest to the Harriers, who have provided the top two finishers in each of the races so far, and which sees the Bolton team and rivals Bury inseparable with one victory and 35 points each overall.

After being outsprinted by her friend and training partner Anna Lancashire in their previous encounter at Bury, Katie seemed determined to make amends. Finding the mud and hills of this tough course to her liking, Katie pulled away from Anna to win by a comfortable 24 seconds.

With one win and one runners-up spot each, the final two races should certainly be interesting. Alicia Busaileh improved six places to finish 15th.

In the boys race Stephen Wibberley followed up his victory at Bury with third here to lead the Under 15 series.

Tom Lancashire scored yet another easy victory in the Under 17 Men's race, ably assisted by Tim Ellis who took third once again with another impressive run. In sixth, Matthew Lang ran magnificently to improve by nine places and complete the winning team.

In the senior men's race, the home club scored one of its best team victories for a number of years.

Led home by Gary Counsell in third once again, the team contained two teenagers in Nick Kay and Chris Iddon. Both improved on last time, Kay moving up one with an excellent fourth and Iddon starting to click into form in tenth.

Ian Bowles and Chris Busaileh were third and fourth in the Junior category, a great sign for the future of the team.

The team was completed by top veteran Tony Duffy in fifth, Andy Parker in sixth and team manager Dave Shaw with a vastly improved run in eighth. The race also saw a first appearance of the season in 14th for club captain Steve Kenyon, using the race as training after a hard session in the morning.
